Avling Kitchen and Brewery

Avling, the east end’s pastel-hued brewery on Queen Street is more than just a pretty face. The sustainable brewpub’s top tier-talent, assembled by founder Max Meighen, includes head chef Suzanne Barr (previously the chef and owner of Toronto’s beloved Saturday Dinette), head brewer Brandon Judd, who comes by way of Godspeed Brewery, and head butcher Sam Campbell, who crafts the charcuterie and house-made cheese.

The student-led event, which is timed to coincide with the UN Climate Summit in New York, advocates for immediate action against the climate emergency. Already more than four million people across the world have joined the Global Climate Strike rallies and events which took place last week (Sept. 20-27).

Post-Climate STRike Coverage

Thousands of protesters flocked to Queen’s Park on Friday as part of the youth-led Global Climate Strike. The demonstrators joined more than four million people across the world in a series of strikes leading up to the UN’s Climate Action Summit.

Starting at 11 a.m., students, parents with young children, and adults of all ages started to fill the park. Many of the people in attendance bore homemade signs with slogans such as “Hot girl summer should only be seasonal,” “Who needs school if the planet dies?” and “I was hoping for a cooler death.”
